Soon a deserving student at Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment, will be able to be the recipient of a full scholarship courtesy of the world-famous performer Megan Thee Stallion. This is the latest piece of good news for the growing school which was formed after two entities came together. The school was set up following the partnership of LIU Brooklyn and Roc Nation, which is headed by their CEO, Desiree Perez. The announcement of the scholarship will help to provide philanthropic support for the school that Desiree Perez helped to start at Long Island University.
In addition to sponsoring the scholarship, Megan Thee Stallion will also be acting as a lecturer. Those who are applying for the scholarship will be asked to both provide samples of their music and the reasons why they think they would be the best candidate to be the recipient of the scholarship. The rapper has said that she wanted to provide an educational opportunity to a student who otherwise might not be able to attend college. This idea of identifying talent and providing it with the opportunity to succeed is a critical message that Desiree Perez has been promoting with the creation of the school.
Inclusion, opportunity, and equity are all core foundations of the new school. During the announcement of the school’s creation, it was noted that around a quarter of incoming freshmen would be receiving a scholarship, this will allow the recipients to graduate without and student loan debt. Those eligible for the scholarships will be selected from academically gifted students from New York City. This new school will provide undergraduate programs in music technology, music, production sports management, and finally entrepreneurship. Students will be exposed to both guest lecturers and will be offered the opportunity to complete internships in their industry.
